Job Description

Position Overview

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Mid-Level Practitioners, and Registered Nurses with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The role supports patient flow, maintains exam and treatment rooms, performs basic clinical skills such as taking vital signs and point‐of‐care testing, and administers injections, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and over-the-counter medications under a Physician’s direction while exemplifying Rush’s mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow and manages exam and treatment room readiness.
  • Performs patient intake including vital signs, height and weight, and documents reason for visit and relevant history.
  • Prepares patients for exam, supports providers during procedures, and reviews patient charts for ancillary reports and required paperwork.
  • Conducts basic lab tests, performs phlebotomy, EKGs, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and Tuberculin skin testing as ordered.
  • Documents patient care in the outpatient record, assists with scheduling tests/procedures, manages inventory, and participates in quality improvement projects.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NAHP, AAH, or NHA required (including principles and techniques of injections and medication administration) upon hire.
  • Graduates of a Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program must obtain Clinical Medical Assistant Certification within six months of hire.
  • Current CPR certification required upon start date.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of clinical experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with Epic Ambulatory systems.

  • Work Schedule: 6 Hr (8:30:00 AM - 4:00:00 PM)
  • Work Type: Part Time (Total FTE between 0.5 and 0.89)
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois
  • Sign on Bonus: $3,000
  • Pay Range: $19.50 - $29.73 per hour
