Job Description

Position Overview

The Computer Technician works under the general direction of the Director of Technology and the direct supervision of the Computer and MD Manager. This role is responsible for responding to help desk tickets and delivering support to all campuses and departments across the district for both employees and students. The technician programs routine settings on desktops, printers, network devices, servers, mobile devices, and software, using sound discretion and judgment to perform services promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Novell Netware, OES, MS Windows 7 & 8, Mac OS X) and associated peripheral hardware in a networked environment.
  • Install, configure, and maintain instructional and administrative application software on Microsoft and Mac OS computers and laptops.
  • Support all campuses and departments with mobile devices such as iPads, Chromebooks, Android, and Windows devices.
  • Provide support to all end users by identifying, researching, and resolving technical issues through telephone, email, and help desk tickets.
  • Install approved software releases, system upgrades, and patches while resolving software-related problems.
  • Inventory, receive, transport, and manage new and district equipment as needed for repairs.
  • Interact with district staff and students to resolve technology-related issues and work outside normal hours when necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency to address multiple tasks and ensure rapid turnaround on service requests and repairs.
  • Perform additional IT functions as workflow permits and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Fingerprinting Background Check: Candidate must achieve a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting background check (non-refundable fee approximately $50.00 paid by the employee).
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft and Mac OS regarding installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers and peripherals.
  • Experience in wireless network (Wi-Fi) setup and troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical and investigation skills with a structured approach to problem solving.
  • Outstanding customer service, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree from a two-year college or technical school in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science.
  • A+ Certification.
  • Apple Certified Support Professional - Mac OS X.
  • 3+ years of computer or related equipment service experience in school districts.
  • 1+ years’ experience working, repairing, and configuring mobile devices.
