The City of Tumwater is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Firefighter. In this role, you will provide emergency assistance and protective services to the community, responding to disasters, fire, hazardous materials incidents and more. Applicants must complete the Firefighter Selection Tool written exam through Public Safety Testing and achieve a minimum score of 80% by January 30, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with agency policies, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and customer requests.
- Provide public education, outreach, and training.
- Participate in ongoing training and physical conditioning.
- Operate agency equipment and apparatus efficiently.
- Obtain and retain required professional certifications.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of activities.
- Mentor fellow firefighters and support team operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must complete the Firefighter Selection Tool exam through Public Safety Testing with a minimum score of 80% and submit a City of Tumwater application by January 30, 2026.
- Must successfully complete an Agency-recognized firefighter recruit academy, obtain Washington Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within one year, and attain IFSAC Firefighter I/II certifications as required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, pass the Agency’s fitness for duty test, and meet physical requirements (including a valid CPAT certification).
- Ability to work in a paramilitary environment, follow strict safety protocols, and maintain composure under stressful, emergency situations.
