Job Description

Position Overview

DoorDash Labs, established in 2018, is the innovation hub focused on robotics and automation to enhance last‐mile logistics. We are searching for a highly motivated Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. This role will be critical in designing, developing, and validating mechanical systems and components for our unmanned platforms in fast-paced, high‐production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of mechanical systems, structures, and mechanisms.
  • Own subsystems from concept through production, including CAD modeling, drawing generation, and documentation.
  • Conduct and interpret Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure mechanical robustness and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, and systems engineers for seamless integration of designs.
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) with internal and external manufacturing teams, and take initiative in identifying technical risks and proposing solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in robotics, aerospace, automotive, or similar high-volume, safety-critical environments.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX) and familiarity with GD&T drawing standards.
  • Strong expertise in structural analysis using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation).
  • Proven ability to take products from concept to production in fast-paced, high-ownership settings.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping hardware at scale in safety-critical applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-integrity, fast-paced, high-stakes engineering environments.
  • Personal engineering projects that showcase your passion and craftsmanship.
  • Experience working with both in-house and contract manufacturing teams.
  • A mindset of extreme ownership in all aspects of work.
