Job Description

Position Overview

The Plant Mechanic II installs, repairs, inspects, overhauls, troubleshoots, and maintains power plant equipment and systems at a Journey level. This role involves work in pipefitting, welding, millwright, and machining while operating various machine shop and industrial equipment. Compensation: Grade Technical 40, Job Code: 127959.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general craft tasks using power and hand tools.
  • Conduct necessary welding and pipefitting maintenance.
  • Operate various machine shop equipment and industrial machinery (e.g., forklift).
  • Read and interpret complex drawings and prints, and perform equipment alignment.
  • Repair, inspect, and maintain boiler systems, turbine/generator units, and coal handling equipment.
  • Assist in member development and continually seek process improvement to save cost and increase efficiency.
  • Review and update bills of materials and task lists as needed.
  • Comply with all internal and external safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize the SAP/PM system for equipment history and verification of work performed.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in a mechanical discipline and 1 year of mechanical experience; OR
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of mechanical experience; OR
  • Prior military experience (at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214) and 2 years of mechanical experience.
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a mechanical field is equivalent to 1 year of mechanical experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a power plant or process-controlled environment (including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing).
