Position Overview
Job Title: Control Systems Engineer (Entry – Mid Level)
Location: Wichita, KS – Onsite
Job Type: Full Time, SALARY
Travel: Up to 20% (Depending on Customer Location)
Salary Range: $65,000 – $90,000 (Depends on Experience)
In this role, the Control Systems Engineer provides specific value in developing and integrating automation applications for industrial plant environments. This position supports project management throughout the lifecycle—from conception through design, installation, check-out, start-up, and ongoing support—utilizing PLC and HMI programming tools to ensure excellent customer service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides technical support and analysis for installed control systems
- Develops PLC programs along with HMI graphics for specific projects
- Performs engineering calculations following standard methods and applies engineering judgment where needed
- Assists in developing project specifications, estimates, change orders, and schedules
- Manages assigned portions of projects and proactively identifies and resolves problems
- Gathers relevant information to develop alternatives and assists in problem-solving discussions
- Supports engineers and project managers in office and on-site customer activities
- Occasionally collaborates with vendors to procure equipment and materials
- Assists plant electrical personnel by designing and troubleshooting electrical control circuits
- Helps design electrical circuits for instrumentation, motor control, and other controls
- Occasionally supervises other engineers and designers
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A helpful, serving, and courteous attitude
- Understands PLC system architecture and control equipment usage
- Able to specify PLC I/O addressing and assignments
- Proficient in programming PLCs (ControlLogix 5000, SLC 500, and Modicon)
- Experienced with setup and configuration of HMI workstations (iFIX, Wonderware, PanelView)
- Familiar with common network topology and functionality
- Skilled in computer-assisted design/drafting software
- Experience in designing industrial electrical controls and coordinating with OEMs
- Experience designing control network infrastructures
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
- Knowledge of NEC and industrial best practices
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and function in challenging environmental conditions while adhering to PPE requirements
