Job Description

The Admissions Advisor must have a passionate commitment to student success. The incumbent will provide college/program advisement to future students for successful program enrollment, create new class schedules, change class schedules for current students, and participate in recruitment efforts to achieve the college’s enrollment and retention goals. Necessary to have a functional knowledge of programs available and services offered by the college to ensure all student needs are met. Areas of knowledge will include financial aid and scholarships, assessment of prior learning, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), program admission requirements, related occupations, and established educational pathways. The incumbent will report to the Director of Admissions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Advise potential students on topics such as program options, job placement, occupational salaries, start dates, financial aid, assessment, career goals, class availability, and class schedules.
  • Advise current students on class availability and make schedules changes.
  • Provide presentations and engaging tours of college programs to potential students, secondary education partners, employers, and community organizations.
  • Money handling responsibilities with cashiering, including basic transactions and closing as needed.
  • Communicate with potential students using a variety of methods such as email, calls, texts, by utilizing Salesforce software and NorthStar student information systems.
  • Accurately document, enter data, and follow current policies and procedures.
  • Create an inclusive advising environment where student identities are recognized and valued.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and a pleasant telephone presence.
  • Coordinate with support agencies such as Department of Workforce Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Deseret Industries, and others.
  • It is expected that this position shall perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associates degree or two years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience required.
  • Ability to give presentations and speak to large, diverse groups.
  • Ability to take students on campus tours and educate them on college programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to details needed.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team while managing work assignments in a highly interpersonal contact environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stress caused by workload and time deadlines.
  • Experience in competency-based training, customer relations management (CRM) system, and student information system is helpful.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with individuals of all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Spanish-speaking proficiency is desired.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is a combination of sitting comfortably at a desk and physical exertion which includes walking for long distances and standing for extended time periods.
  • Ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 20 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Requires ability to drive an automobile.
