Position Overview
Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its dynamic mechanical engineering team. In this role, you will lead design efforts and deliver projects of varying complexity for our power generation clients. You will work collaboratively with engineers, drafters, and cross-discipline team members, and you may be required to travel (typically less than 10% overnight) to project sites in the southeast including Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Memphis, Nashville, and Huntsville.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead Responsible Engineer on diverse projects.
- Conduct high energy piping tasks including pipe stress analysis, material selection, weld procedure development, and root cause analysis of piping failures.
- Develop and present detailed design models using AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, Solidworks, Revit, and/or Navisworks.
- Oversee drawing package preparation and review using AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and MicroStation.
- Develop and modify Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, piping plans/details, pipe support details, piping isometrics, and bills of materials.
- Utilize laser scanning technology with Plant 3D, Navisworks, and Recap; perform walkdowns and collect detailed field data.
- Peer-check design packages and mentor less experienced team members and drafters.
- Perform engineering calculations, size mechanical equipment, and manage personal task assignments to adhere to project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and cross-discipline teams on multi-discipline projects.
Required Qualifications
- BSME and PE license (TN, GA, AL preferred)
- Pipe stress analysis experience using AutoPipe or Caesar pipe stress software
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge of pumps, valves, and heat exchangers
- Working knowledge of industry codes and standards including ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, NFPA, ANSI, and API
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in piping and plant design
- Knowledge of welding and weld repairs
- Background in Power Generation, Pulp and Paper, or Chemical processes
