Position Overview
Sound Generations is a comprehensive non-profit organization serving older adults and people with disabilities in King County. Our mission is to partner with older adults to provide accessible and inclusive services so they can age their way. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Seattle, WA. This role focuses on accounting activities for our Senior Centers, including bank reconciliations, credit card management, grant compliance, payroll, and timely financial reporting. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you will ensure strong internal controls, accuracy, and consistency in all financial operations.
Compensation: $84,341.65 per year.
Work Schedule: Monday Through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to compliance standards in not-for-profit fund accounting, including consolidations, net assets, and release from restrictions per GAAP, FASB, Uniform Guidance and regulatory requirements.
- Support the annual audit, Form 990s, and any federal, state, county, city, or funder audits.
- Maintain the integrity of the Senior Centers’ General Ledger, ensuring timely monthly closes and accurate reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Demonstrate a customer-service attitude by providing support and mentorship to Senior Centers.
- Analyze complex financial and statistical data, preparing comprehensive narrative and visual reports.
- Reconcile bank accounts, prepare adjustment journals, and investigate anomalies with curiosity and precision.
- Oversee credit card management and employee expense reimbursement processes to ensure consistency.
- Act as a technical expert on accounting policies and procedures while reviewing work of Senior Centers’ bookkeepers.
- Maintain legal and contractual compliance while recommending operational changes based on GAAP and Uniform Guidance standards.
- Participate as an effective team member in a collaborative work environment.
- Prepare transactions and journals, and represent the department to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and foster strong relationships with cross-functional teams, staff, volunteers, and community members.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- Four years of professional accounting experience, including at least two years of management experience.
- Four years’ experience with financial, budget, and expense management software (e.g., NetSuite, Intacct, MIP, Ramp).
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred.
