Position Overview

Low Voltage Technician – this role is responsible for performing the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer while functioning as a lead member of a technical team. Reports To: Lead Communications Technician. Location: Riverside, Moreno Valley, Rialto, and East Los Angeles. The technician will coordinate small groups of installers in daily projects, ensuring adherence to Company safety and quality standards. Salary: USD $21.00 - $23.00 per Yr.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install work area outlets for floor or wall, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates, and ensuring proper installation of surface mount boxes in accordance with IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards.
  • Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and install required grounding for racks, equipment, and cables; complete all IDC connections.
  • Perform testing such as continuity tests for horizontal and riser cables using volt-ohmmeters, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs, and operate tone sets.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits accurately.
  • Assume leadership responsibility for crew performance including providing training, coordinating personnel, and managing timelines to complete projects.
  • Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.
  • Adhere to, and actively participate in, all Company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Must be capable of acting as the Company liaison during customer interactions.
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, strong critical thinking abilities, and effective communication skills (reading, writing, and oral presentations).
  • Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder, in confined spaces, and meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and moving up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors, read small print, and respond to audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must be willing and able to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Experience Required: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field, with demonstrated supervisory capabilities.
  • Must be proficient with essential tools including regular and Phillips screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), needle nose pliers and channel locks, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool with 110 and 66 block blades, tone set, and 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
  • Must have the ability to interpret blueprints and other project documents including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Must know the universal communications color codes.
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
