Job Description

Position Overview

The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for managing the store warehouse, delivery organization, inventory processes, and other operational aspects of the store. In addition, the OM supports the Store Director by driving planned sales, margin improvement, expense and shrink reduction, and profit goals, and assumes the Store Director’s duties in their absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Role model behaviors for the assigned District Team by promoting the Code of Conduct and American Freight cultural values.
  • Manage the warehouse team to ensure proper staffing, adherence to labor plans, backroom standards, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the delivery team to ensure compliance with regulations, proper staffing, vehicle and driver certification, and efficient delivery operations.
  • Ensure execution of daily store operational activities, including completion of Activity Planner tasks.
  • Maintain strong operational processes to minimize shrink and damage expense, including robust asset protection controls.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, receiving/scanning processes, online order fulfillment, and proper reconciliation of inventory reports.
  • Oversee shipping and receiving including Purchase Orders, Transfer Orders, Reverse Flow processes, and other product movements.
  • Train and coach team members to minimize product damages and employee accidents, ensuring damaged inventory is correctly managed.
  • Assist in achieving business goals related to revenue, expense reduction, customer satisfaction, inventory shrinkage, and profit.
  • Manage the overall customer experience, including online reviews, and be the primary owner of delivery and customer pickup experiences.
  • Oversee the staging and systemic fulfillment of all delivered and pickup merchandise orders.
  • Act as the Manager on Duty as required.
  • Implement corporate programs on merchandising, cost management, productivity, cost recovery, and associate morale.
  • Hire, train, and coach a diverse, high-performing warehouse and delivery team while managing training for all personnel.
  • Oversee in-store Human Resources processes including staffing, training, and performance management in partnership with Corporate HR.
  • Manage warehouse and delivery labor expenses to align with the store’s financial plan.
  • Ensure building safety and security through proactive facility management and collaboration with Corporate Facilities and Asset Management teams.
  • Develop scheduling policies to keep the warehouse adequately staffed and ensure delivery routes are covered, including sales floor scheduling when needed.
  • Maintain store presentation standards and ensure full compliance with DOT requirements and other regulatory standards.
  • Provide a safe working environment by strictly adhering to company shrink and safety standards.
  • Ensure store operations are in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Complete required paperwork related to truck entries and pickup/delivery confirmations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and proactively address store and team needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Warehouse Lead or Sales Lead; experience in retail sales, receiving, inventory management, shrink prevention, and last-mile delivery is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with a minimum of 45 hours per week (exclusive of meals and breaks), including evenings and most weekends.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a desire to advance within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and associate development skills.
  • Action-oriented with strong skills in execution and a strong drive for results.
  • Computer literacy with experience in Excel, Word, and Handheld Units.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of retail business and store operations.
  • Experience with Physical Inventory Processes is preferred.

Benefits & Perks

  • Compensation: $45,000 - $49,000 per year
