Job Description

Position Overview

IT@JH Networking, Telecom, & Data Center is seeking an Associate Network Technician who will, under guidance, diagnose and troubleshoot basic network, device, and data communications problems. The role involves installing/replacing hardware, software and cabling, performing basic switch configurations, and interfacing with customers to understand and articulate their needs. You will also be responsible for the installation, maintenance, technical support, and administration of the organization’s network service provision suite including Data Center, workstation, wireless, video conference, audio visual, and satellite TV systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist IT professionals responsible for the network at Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins University.
  • Provide customer support for a variety of network-related issues.
  • Learn network monitoring processes.
  • Perform Data Center equipment installations and de-installations.
  • Support network fleet replacement.
  • Learn how to conduct IT equipment service provision surveys and provision network services from the surveys.
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless connections, and install/upgrade network switches and wireless access points.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or current high school student.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of sophomore year of high school with some coursework in IT or IT Networking.
  • Basic knowledge of IP/MAC addresses and DHCP.
  • Computer experience.
  • Technical hands-on training on devices, network, and/or wireless technologies.

  • Compensation: $15.00 – $19.20 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
