Position Overview
Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking an entry-level Associate for our Washington, D.C. office. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in architectural engineering, civil or structural engineering, or building science. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations of building enclosure and materials related issues, including documenting distress and collecting test samples.
- Conduct field testing and gather data using various technologies such as digital instrumentation and imaging tools.
- Analyze data and review modern and historic construction documents, governing codes, and design guidelines to support problem-solving and repair design.
- Utilize advanced analysis software and calculations to complete project analysis.
- Assist with drafting and preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final deliverables including structural and architectural construction drawings, specifications, written reports, and presentations.
- Interface with project teams, clients, contractors, and other engineering and architectural disciplines.
- Assume responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments with limited oversight under the guidance of licensed professionals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in civil, structural, or architectural engineering; a Master's degree is preferred from an ABET accredited program.
- Solid foundation in architectural and/or structural engineering principles with a demonstrated interest in the investigation, rehabilitation, construction, and design of modern and historic structures, building systems, and materials.
- Relevant internship and/or research experience is advantageous.
- Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive team player capable of working independently and prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment with a high standard of excellence and integrity.

- Salary: $79,280.00 - $118,920.00 per year
