Location: NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX
Key Responsibilities
- Support Johnson Space Center's activities on the International Space Station and space exploration.
- Work in a team environment to analyze customer requirements and develop design solutions.
- Design, develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems.
- Design unique test fixtures and methods for various test programs.
- Develop required system documentation such as procedures and hazard analyses.
- Maintain a high level of technical excellence for all tasks, ensuring quality in test setups, operations, documentation, and overall execution.
- Perform engineering design evaluations and extensive testing on space hardware.
- Prepare and present designs at various design reviews using MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Produce engineering drawings conforming to applicable standards.
- Perform dimensional fit analysis including thermal effects, functional analyses, and sizing structural analyses.
- Produce other required design documentation and perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Experience Required: 2-5 years in the field or a related area.
- Ability to produce drawings, perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis (including thermal effects), and support design with standard hand calculations.
- 2-5 years of hands-on design experience.
- 1-5 years of experience using solid modeling CAD software (Creo preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of machine shop processes and familiarity with the structural and thermal analysis processes in hardware development.
- Ability to support shift work during extended test operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school with 3-9 years of direct engineering experience.
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience testing hardware.
- Experience using Creo CAD software.
- Extensive design experience.
- Experience with vacuum chambers, pumps, and systems.
- Experience with pressure systems.
- Knowledge of thermal analysis.
