Position Overview

This recruitment is for the Firefighter - Recruit and Fire Pre-Recruit positions at Mesa Fire and Medical Department. Candidates will participate in a rigorous training academy designed to develop skills in fire suppression, emergency medical services, and rescue operations. Applicants will progress through a comprehensive recruitment process with multiple evaluation phases and must meet strict physical, testing, and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in comprehensive training covering fire suppression, emergency medical treatment, and rescue operations.
• Perform emergency response tasks such as ventilating burning buildings, advancing hose lines, and executing search and rescue operations.
• Adhere to NFPA and MFMD physical standards and stringent safety protocols using personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Successfully navigate multiple stages of the recruitment process including written exams, orientations, and interviews.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to public safety in all duties.

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age by Thursday, July 17, 2025.
• High school graduation or GED by Thursday, July 17, 2025.
• Possession of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) completed between January 17, 2025 and the application submission date, with full details provided in the supplemental questions.
• Must hold a valid Arizona Class D Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• Must pass required pre-employment physical, psychological evaluation, and substance abuse testing.
• Must meet NFPA and Mesa Fire and Medical Department physical standards and be able to wear a tight-fitting respirator after a medical evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of Fire Science coursework from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Previous firefighting experience (full-time, part-time, or volunteer).
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
