Position Overview

Bertke Electric Co. has been delivering top-notch electrical services to the Greater Cincinnati area since 1928,
contributing to landmark projects such as the Hyatt Regency, Adams Landing, and Riverbend Music Center. Specializing in electrical service work, the company offers maintenance, repairs, infrared/thermal imaging, arc flash studies, and training, all while upholding a strong commitment to employee safety and ongoing training.
The Apprentice is responsible for assisting journeyman electricians in planning, installing, and repairing electrical systems.
The role involves performing maintenance tasks, troubleshooting electrical issues, safely handling equipment and tools, and receiving on‐the‐job training alongside enrollment in a classroom-based apprenticeship program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn from journeyman electricians to perform the installation of electrical systems, wiring, lighting, and equipment in compliance with local and national electrical codes.
  • Participate in routine maintenance to ensure electrical systems are functioning properly, including troubleshooting, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Interpret and follow electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to accurately plan and execute installations.
  • Utilize testing devices to verify the functionality of electrical systems, identify faults, and ensure safety compliance; assist during inspections.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to create a safe working environment and effectively mitigate potential hazards.
  • Stay updated on local and national electrical codes and regulations to ensure all work meets established standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand their electrical needs, offer recommendations, and address concerns.
  • Assist in diagnosing electrical issues and developing effective solutions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while ensuring all safety standards are followed.
  • Record work performed accurately and attend training sessions, workshops, and educational classes to advance skills and knowledge.
  • Travel to job sites across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and principles.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with coworkers and clients.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Education: Enrollment in an accredited electrical apprenticeship program is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments.
  • A strong willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience Required: Previous experience in electrical, construction, or a related field is a plus.
