With responsibilities that include technical debugging, calibration/integration testing, and releasing, you will lead root cause initiatives on software and calibration-related issues to ensure timely implementation of solutions and manage the entire releasing process. This role requires a balanced mix of technical engineering and leadership skills, independent judgment, and a self-driven approach with high responsibility for program delivery and communication with leadership at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a fully integrated software and calibration package that is on-time and meets quality standards for one or more vehicle programs under development.
  • Investigate and resolve software and calibration-related issues, provide technical expertise, track software readiness status, and communicate validation testing outcomes to key stakeholders, including program management and leadership.
  • Utilize debugging and testing knowledge, including using NeoVi systems and diagnosing DTCs.
  • Lead the end-to-end software development process during sourcing (as applicable), Product Development Team (PDT) and engineering review meetings, and drive continuous improvement to reduce controller warranty claims.
  • Engage with stakeholders such as Suppliers, Product Management, Program Management, Vehicle Program teams, Purchasing, and/or Plants.
  • Support engineering change management activities (eMerge, PCEs, ECM, CNs) and the release of software data files for development, production, and throughout the service life of the program.
  • Train, coach, and mentor other team members.
  • Occasionally travel domestically (approximately 10%) to vehicle assembly plants, supplier vendors, or other sites as required.
  • Support software integration and implementation, design review meetings, software/calibration releases, testing, and collaboration with requirement teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5+ years of Automotive Engineering experience and 3+ years of direct software design release experience, including managing software release cadences, requirements, and test plans.
  • Ability to read and analyze code in Embedded C.
  • Experience in Electrical ECU hardware development and debugging.
  • Proven proficiency in taking initiative, achieving results, solving complex problems, managing ambiguity, planning and organizing tasks, project management, relationship building, collaboration, and leadership in meetings.
  • Experience with Vehicle Spy and using NeoVi systems for debugging/testing and diagnosing DTCs.
  • Strong understanding of software design, system/subsystem requirements, and vehicle system architecture.
  • Ability to provide component-specific direction to new engineers and supplier resident engineers.
  • Familiarity with software verification and validation processes.
  • Must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Experience with DFMEA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Experience with Vehicle Access (bonus if you have Digital Key experience or seating controls experience).
  • Strong background in software knowledge, design, and development/architecture.
  • 3+ years of Software Design Release Engineer (SW DRE) experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in controller integration.
  • Experience with the GM product release and specification process.
  • Familiarity with customer interface technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle serial data communications and diagnostics.
  • Understanding of relevant domain systems such as brakes, steering, body, suspension, or driveline.
  • Knowledge of OBD II and Functional Safety for Road Vehicles (ASIL).
