Position Overview
Technical Support Engineer I/II – Kern County is seeking dedicated IT professionals to provide exceptional technical support in a dynamic, multi-departmental environment. This opportunity offers a competitive bi-weekly Salary: Level I: $2,798.50 - $3,344.47; Level II: $2,941.61 - $3,515.50. Candidates will participate in a formal examination process where Schedule: testing dates will be notified five days prior to the examination. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive technical support including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of operating systems, servers, storage equipment, software applications, and IT hardware.
- Coordinate and manage data processing operations within various departments, ensuring adherence to established IT practices and protocols.
- Evaluate customer needs and requirements to identify effective business solutions.
- Participate in the structured examination process used to assess technical competencies.
Required Qualifications
- For Level I – Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree (including at least 15 semester units in computer science or management information systems) OR completion of substantial coursework/training in the field; plus one (1) year of paid experience in a complex IT environment. Alternative combinations of education and experience (including vocational training or relevant county classification experience) are also acceptable.
- For Level II – Education: A bachelor's degree with the required coursework in computer science or management information systems; plus two (2) years of paid experience in a complex IT environment, or acceptable equivalent combinations including vocational training.
- Candidates must earn a minimum score of 70% on all phases of the examination process.
- If qualifying based upon education, applicants are required to submit official transcripts as part of their application.
