Position Overview

The Virginia Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau develops and promotes Virginia Beach as a first-class destination, while the Virginia Beach Convention Center offers high-quality services and amenities for conventions, trade shows, consumer events, and community gatherings. We are seeking a self-motivated individual to join our Convention Center Maintenance Team as a Maintenance Engineer I - Heating & Air Conditioning Technician to maintain, diagnose, and repair a diverse range of systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the mechanical plant and associated HVAC systems at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
• Maintain a valid HVAC Journeyman’s License.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repair HVAC equipment and related systems.
• Conduct inspections and provide necessary reporting and recommendations.
• Requisition parts, materials, supplies, and equipment from the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
• Oversee related contractors and verify work compliance.
• Supervise full-time and part-time personnel as needed.
• Perform other building maintenance tasks and related duties as assigned.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
• Work Monday–Friday (7:00 AM–3:30 PM) with rotating weekend shifts, some holidays, and schedule adjustments based on event needs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid HVAC Journeyman’s License
• Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to thrive in a challenging environment
