Job Description

Position Overview

NBCUniversal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its Media Group Decision Sciences team. In this role, you will help design and deliver data-driven insights and scalable solutions that enhance audience engagement across streaming and linear platforms. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders, applying advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques to improve content engagement, marketing efficiency, and distribution effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver impactful analytical solutions using statistical modeling, machine learning, and data science techniques to uncover audience insights and support decision-making.
  • Translate complex business problems into data-driven approaches by partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., Advanced Analytics, Content Strategy, Consumer Insights) and clearly communicating findings.
  • Contribute to project execution, including scoping, data exploration, modeling, validation, and documentation for both ad hoc and recurring workflows.
  • Enhance the team’s analytical rigor by contributing to methodology development, peer reviews, and collaborative problem solving.
  • Leverage available data effectively to identify opportunities for deeper audience understanding and improved business outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, or related discipline).
  • 2+ years of experience applying statistical and machine learning methods for inference and prediction in a professional setting.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working in cloud-based data environments such as BigQuery or PySpark.
  • Demonstrated experience using relational databases and applying data visualization techniques to communicate analytical insights.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and deploying scalable data and machine learning pipelines, ideally in cluster computing environments (e.g., Databricks, Google Cloud Platform) and with orchestration tools like Airflow.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts through clear narratives, well-structured documentation, and effective data visualizations.
  • A strong sense of curiosity, accountability, and execution, with the ability to lead and contribute to projects of various sizes.
  • Enthusiasm for video, TV, and streaming content with a keen interest in leveraging data to understand audiences.
