Position Overview
The Office of the New York State Attorney General's (OAG) Labor Bureau is seeking a Forensic Accountant/Auditor (FAA) for its New York City office. This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity for recent college graduates eager to contribute to the enforcement of labor laws and the protection of workers' rights. Working closely with attorneys, legal support analysts, and administrative staff, the FAA will conduct complex investigations into labor law violations, including issues such as wage theft in low-wage industries. The FAA will analyze financial data provided by employers to identify potential violations of labor laws relating to minimum wage, overtime, and protections against discrimination and retaliation, and willcalculate compensationowed to workers and other damages. The analysis will be summarized for internal and external presentations, and the FAA may serve as a trial witness. Candidates should have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of an investigative team. Key Responsibilities
- Analyze financial data produced by employers to determine if violations of labor laws have occurred.
- Calculatecompensationowed to workers and other damages employers are liable for.
- Summarize financial analysis for internal and external presentations.
- Potentially serve as a trial witness to explain financial analysis findings.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a four-year college degree in accounting, finance, economics, computer science with data analysis, applied statistics, or equivalent post-college work experience.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational skills and the ability to function as part of an investigative team.
- Knowledge of fundamental computer applications, such as Word, Excel, and Access.
- Proficiency with presentation software, such as PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to review financial records and assist in the investigation of alleged fraud.
- Experience with statistical sampling and/or advanced statistical training.
- Designation as a Certified Fraud Examiner.
