Position Overview

Alamon, Inc., a Montana-based employee-owned company since 1975, provides installation services to the utilities, energy, and communications industries nationwide. There is no ceiling when it comes to your professional growth at Alamon. We are seeking a Fiber to the Premises Technician (FTTX) for the Broadband Deployment Services (BDS) department. This role entails the planning, installation, and maintenance of copper and fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor settings. You will work with cutting-edge technology to ensure high speed internet and telecommunication services are delivered to customers' homes or businesses, while being responsible for splicing, testing, and repairing fiber optic and copper cables as well as reading, creating, and maintaining splicing diagrams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and repair fiber and copper cables and related equipment including junction boxes, splice closures, and fiber distribution panels.
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.
  • Ensure all installations and network components meet industry standards, company guidelines, and regulatory equipment.
  • Perform tasks associated with electronic upgrade and cable splicing.
  • Self-supervise work to ensure splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
  • Field train and oversee the work of other splicers when necessary.
  • Safely operate ladders to complete daily construction assignments, including climbing utility poles.
  • Maintain daily production logs, production reports, mark-up maps, track work hours, and complete 'as-built maps' for built areas.
  • Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material usage counts.
  • Demonstrate leadership by accepting full responsibility for the safe operations and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must pass the pre-employment screening process which includes a background check, drug test, and motor vehicle records pull.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment in all-weather conditions, including lifting/moving up to 50 lbs and hiking over varied terrain.
  • Possess a current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUI/DWIs within the past 5 years).
  • Willingness to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as required.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as project demands require.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with the installation and repair of fiber optic and copper cables.
  • Adherence to all OSHA, state, and municipal safety requirements.
  • Experience in splicing fiber optic and/or copper cables.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and interpret/build from blueprints and wire diagrams.
