Position Overview
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Drilling Engineering) within the School of Engineering. This tenure-track, 9‑month faculty appointment beginning Fall 2026 offers the opportunity to build an independent externally‑funded research program, teach drilling engineering courses, and contribute actively to the School’s mission. Located in Laredo, Texas – a vibrant and bicultural city – TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution dedicated to research excellence, community engagement, and student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Build an independent externally‑funded research program to elevate the School’s research profile.
- Teach drilling engineering courses and contribute to the overall academic mission.
- Participate in ABET accreditation activities, including the assessment and evaluation of student outcomes.
- Engage in service responsibilities such as recruitment initiatives and departmental activities.
- Mentor and advise students on Senior Design projects and research activities.
Required Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely‐related discipline, or near completion with degree conferral prior to Fall 2026.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise students in research and Senior Design projects.
- Experience in drilling engineering areas such as drilling and cementing, well planning and design, well control, drilling fluids, drilling optimization, wellbore integrity, and drilling analytics and automation.
- Potential to publish research in high‑ranking venues and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Ability to teach all drilling engineering courses in the curriculum.
