Job Description
Position Overview
We are currently seeking an Apprentice Sub Technician to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems. Such work is generally performed on the ground.
- Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of transmission and substation facilities.
- Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
- Receives training in both classroom and on-the-job skills and must continue to pass ongoing training to progress to higher skill/job levels.
- Operates motorized equipment, uses hand tools, and performs routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools; also performs janitorial duties in shop areas.
- Follows safety guidelines as part of training.
- Stocks and services vehicles to ensure they are equipped for emergency response.
- Responds to calls within twenty (20) minutes.
- Works nights, weekends, and holidays for extended periods, and may be required to participate in recovery efforts during emergencies and disasters.
- Works around hazardous equipment, energized parts or equipment, and in all weather conditions, including exposure to excessive noise, extreme temperatures, and potential hazards such as unpleasant plants and insects.
- Works at varying heights above ground, in confined spaces, and in situations requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods while working in dangerous conditions.
- Ability to work with hands above the head for extended periods.
- Capable of walking, climbing, and working from ladders or at various heights on uneven and slippery surfaces under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Must not exceed approximately 240 pounds due to equipment capacity limitations.
- No fear of heights.
- Ability to lift, move, and maneuver heavy weights up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Must be able to climb a power pole using climbing hooks and a belt, drive assigned vehicles, operate a digger derrick, and use a jackhammer.
- Must be capable of repetitive tasks such as pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Possess sufficient eyesight to judge distances and proper coordination to use equipment and assist other line repairers.
- Endurance to perform duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day, with availability for long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, or weekends.
- Must meet and maintain weight restrictions for operating a bucket truck as specified by the manufacturer.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the work location and hold a valid driver's license.
