Job Description
Position Overview
The Security K9 Manager will lead the Disneyland Resort Canine (K9) program, provide specialized and expert knowledge, and train and lead the hourly Cast Members assigned as Canine Handlers, trainers, and Working Leads.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the direction of a Senior Manager, directly manage all administrative and operational functions associated with the K9 program.
- Ensure the K9 program complies with all applicable regulations and certifications, including a yearly certification through the North American Police Working Dog Association (NAPWDA) standards or equivalent.
- Support and advocate for the strategies, objectives, and mission of Disneyland Resort and its Security & Emergency Services.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated partnering, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Capable of managing the health and care of multiple working dogs in a licensed commercial kennel, including documentation and record maintenance.
- Must possess or be capable of obtaining certification as a trainer for Detection Dog Handling.
- Must be able to obtain a California State BSIS Proprietary Private Security Office License.
- Valid California Driver License with no moving violations in the past 12 months.
- Ability to meet the outlined physical demands and environmental/working conditions of the position.
- Preferred: Associate's degree or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current certification as a Detection Dog Handler through NAPWDA or a similar professional association.
- 3+ years of demonstrated work history in a leadership position or equivalent experience.
- Experience with law enforcement, government agencies, and military organizations.
- Ability to build strong relationships within the working dog industry.
- Capable of designing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive training plan including on-boarding for new Handlers and maintenance for current Handlers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proactive collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Flexibility with work schedule, including all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Demonstrated skills in fiscal budgeting, scheduling, and project management.
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: $72,000 to $96,500 per year. Base pay will consider internal equity, geographic region, and candidate qualifications. Bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided.
