Job Description
Position Overview
The Digital Asset Management Specialist serves as an administrator for the digital asset management system (DAMS), ensuring that the institution’s media assets are properly organized and described. Working collaboratively with various departments—such as Publications, Visual Resources, and ALSC—the Specialist trains staff, establishes workflows, and supports the central repository of institutional images.
Key Responsibilities
- Creates and refines DAMS policies, procedures, and workflows for various departments.
- Implements and enforces best practices and standards for digital asset management.
- Communicates complex concepts in simple terms to different constituent groups.
- Trains new staff on using the DAMS effectively.
- Conducts quarterly audits to ensure accurate asset ingestion, metadata entry, and system maintenance.
- Collaborates with the Visual Resources Manager and Collections Research Coordinator on copyright and workflow issues.
- Leads cross-departmental DAMS working group meetings to address questions and share institution-wide initiatives.
- Ingests assets, completes download approvals, and supports workflows for incoming external photography.
- Assists in configuring portals for presenting assets to internal and external constituents.
Required Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS degree required
- 2-4 years’ experience working in digital asset management (DAM)
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of taxonomy, metadata standards, and cataloging
- Basic understanding of copyright laws and best practices
- Basic familiarity with integrated systems
- Clearances: Criminal Background-National
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NetX
- Experience with collection management systems (e.g. The Museum System)
