We are hiring for FOUR STUDENT MARKETING AND DESIGN TEAM MEMBERS!

Student Marketing & Design (SM&D) Team

The Student Marketing & Design (SM&D) team is a student-led group within Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) at UW Bothell. SM&D members promote campus events, programs, and services through graphic design, photography, videography, digital marketing, and outreach. The team is responsible for creating engaging visuals, producing multimedia content, and supporting SEA's mission to engage and empower students.

These roles provides students with real-world experience in marketing, communications, and creative media, preparing them for careers in design, media production, and digital marketing.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Design and produce graphics, posters, and promotional materials for campus events and programs.
  • Capture and edit photo and video content for marketing campaigns and storytelling.
  • Assist in creating, publishing, and distributing the Bothell Student Times (BS Times).
  • Support event marketing and outreach efforts, including social media campaigns.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to maintain consistent and effective branding.
  • Provide creative solutions to increase student engagement.
  • Evaluate and improve marketing strategies through assessments and feedback.
  • Participate in budget tracking and financial planning for marketing projects.
  • Maintain shared digital workspaces and manage project documentation.
  • Support and staff SEA events such as New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, and campus-wide initiatives.

Student Leader Responsibilities:

  • Contribute respectfully to our diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Represent SEA and Student Media at events, tabling activities, and promotional efforts.
  • Actively connect with students to gather feedback and improve engagement strategies.
  • Support the recruitment of future student leaders during the hiring cycle.
  • Maintain timely communication with supervisors and team members.
  • Assist with writing and presenting Services & Activities Fee (SAF) and Student Technology Fee (STF) budget proposals.

Areas of Focus:

While each team member may have a primary area of focus, everyone collaborates and supports across different roles based on project needs. Students are encouraged to explore multiple areas and build diverse skill sets.

Graphic Design & Marketing

  • Design digital and print materials to market events and student resources.
  • Develop social media graphics, event flyers, and merchandise designs.
  • Ensure branding consistency across all marketing materials.
  • Work on UI/UX-related projects and website updates.

Photography

  • Capture high-quality images of student life and events.
  • Edit and organize images for promotional materials.
  • Maintain the team's photo library for marketing use.

Videography & Multimedia

  • Film and edit event recaps, promotional videos, and social media content.
  • Manage video production schedules and project deadlines.
  • Incorporate creative video editing techniques to enhance engagement.

Event & Outreach Support

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies for campus events.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to promote SEA programs and student involvement.
  • Represent SM&D at club fairs, orientation events, and student media showcases.

Pay Rate:

  • $21.30 per hour
  • 15 hrs/ week
  • Pay rate anticipated to increase January 1st, 2027

Employment Period

Anticipated Employment Date: May 18th, 2026, through June 30, 2027

Qualifications

  • In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must be:
    • Interested in contributing to the mission and goals of Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) and UWB
    • A matriculated University of Washington Bothell student
    • Able to commit for the entire academic year, incl. fall, winter, and spring quarters
    • Enrolled in at least 6 credits as an undergraduate student or at least 5 credits as a graduate student each quarter of employment
    • Able to work in person (percentage of in-person work depends on position)
    • Able to participate in quarterly trainings - dates listed below (subject to change):
      • Returner Training (if applicable): June 1st 2026
      • For Chairs and Org Team Training (UWAVE Station Manager, The Husky Herald Editor-in-Chief, Clamor Coordinator, Student Marketing & Engagement Coordinator): July 8th 2026
      • Fall: September 9th-October 7th 2026
      • Winter: Friday, January 8th 2027
      • Spring: April 2nd 2027
      • Additional trainings, as determined by supervisor
    • In good standing with UWB. Good standing is defined as:
      • Must have a 2.5 cumulative and quarterly GPA
      • Must be in good judicial standing (student conduct)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a graphic designer, marketing coordinator, photographer (i.e., club, freelance, job)
  • Past involvement with Student Media, as Marketing, Media, & Graphic Designer (MMGD) now known as the Student Marketing & Design Team, Husky Herald reporter, Open Mic Night performer, CELR student, event volunteer, club officer, or other Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) experience

  • Ability to articulate personal strengths and areas for growth
  • Ability to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of your work
  • Ability to articulate understanding of roles they play in groups and team
