Job Description

Position Overview

ArcelorMittal Calvert leverages innovative technology to create high‐value steel grades, pushing the boundaries of digitalization in a state‐of‐the‐art facility located in Calvert, AL. This role provides on-site Automation Engineering support through technical leadership and continuous process optimization, all within a strong commitment to Safety and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in a highly automated production facility
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects to increase productivity, availability, and efficiency
  • Improve process automation by leading electrical improvement projects focused on automatic control systems and field devices
  • Lead and participate in root cause failure analysis
  • Optimize process automation systems using data acquisition systems
  • Lead the commissioning of new equipment and plan improvement activities using SAP software
  • Support training, coaching, and mentoring for maintenance technicians and operations team members
  • Ensure full compliance with both Safety and Environmental standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Process and Mechanical Engineers, on day-to-day activities
  • Demonstrate the company values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Relationships, and Sustainability
  • Maintain working knowledge of ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025 standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Industrial Electricity, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical automation in manufacturing, commissioning, or service for electrical automation systems, preferably within steel or similar heavy industries

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial process automation systems
  • Proficiency with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) such as GE P80i, Siemens S7, Siemens TIA Portal, or logi.CAD
  • Familiarity with Human Machine Interface Systems and process sequences programmed in PLCs
  • Knowledge of industrial communication systems (e.g., LAN, Profibus, Profinet, Canbus)
  • Understanding of Industrial Instrumentation and Open Platform Communications (OPC/OPC-UA)
  • Experience with cascade regulation systems for gap, tension, and speed control
  • Motor control expertise utilizing Variable Frequency Drives with PLC regulation
  • Familiarity with low/medium voltage distribution and industrial safety systems
