Position Overview
At the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), we connect communities, build safer streets, and create a more sustainable city. With a historic $1.55 billion investment in transportation in 2024, we’re fixing bridges, building sidewalks, and improving transit connections. SDOT is seeking a detail-oriented and employee-minded Finance Analyst Supervisor for our Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Budget team. In this role, you will provide supervision and guidance on business practices, budget development, and financial analysis while supporting both the Budget Manager and Finance Manager in delivering timely insights to our leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the development, recommendation, and monitoring of the Department’s biennial O&M budget.
- Stewards the technical development of the SDOT budget in partnership with the Budget Manager, Finance Manager, and Chief Finance Officer.
- Develops and recommends budget and financial policies and procedures.
- Assigns, reviews, and supports the day-to-day work of Senior Finance Analysts.
- Supports Senior Finance Analysts in providing financial analysis and reporting for the O&M teams.
- Identifies and advises management on budget overruns, funding shortfalls, or other financial challenges; recommends solutions and works with management to resolve issues.
- Provides technical consultation in preparing budgets, grants, proposals, and contracts while interpreting financial guidelines and handling inquiries.
- Updates the O&M Finance Analyst Desk Manual and delivers technical training to team members.
- Supports department goals by promoting diversity and social justice in line with the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of professional experience in budget management, financial analysis, accounting, or related work.
- One (1) year of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Familiarity with complex budgetary systems and Project Management systems.
- Strong communication skills with a high level of customer service orientation.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes concurrently.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with a diverse customer base.
