Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join our growing design team in Location: Baltimore, MD. In this role, you will become a key member of our Power Conversion Technology design group, collaborating with engineers to develop state-of-the-art power supplies and products for military applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform power supply design, including simulation and analysis, schematic creation, component selection, and printed wiring board layout.
  • Conduct technical trade studies and perform worst-case as well as component stress analysis.
  • Provide manufacturing support for hardware builds, develop Acceptance Test Procedures, and perform first piece hardware checkout/testing.
  • Work in a lab environment to support hardware production and lead teams through design, simulation, and testing of power supplies.
  • Collaborate with system, sub-system, and hardware engineers to develop requirements, architect new circuit design topologies, and manage design documentation from concept through integration and test.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Engineer:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a similar STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of power electronics design experience; or 6 years with a master’s degree; or 3 years with a Ph.D.
    • Proven experience in power supply circuit design from schematic capture through test and integration.
    • Experience with schematic capture tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics/Expedition, Altium) and power electronic simulation software (e.g., LTSpice/SPICE/PSPICE, Saber, SIMPLIS, Simulink).
    • Hands-on prototyping and debugging experience with complex power systems, including various switch-mode topologies and linear regulators.
    • Ability to translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware design and test specifications.
    • Strong team leadership, mentoring, and communication skills; ability to work independently and solve challenging problems.
    • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

    • Practical experience in prototyping and debugging complex power systems, including various switch-mode and linear regulator designs.
    • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Power Conversion/Power Electronics, with a minimum of 8 years of power electronics design experience.
  • Proficiency in Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA) and power integrity analysis.
  • Working knowledge of designing high frequency magnetics including transformers, coupled inductors, EMI chokes, and common mode filters.
  • Strong project planning skills and the ability to communicate with all levels across an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects with four or more team members.
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance.

  • Salary: Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00; Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00
