Job Description
Position Overview
Carnegie Robotics designs and manufactures advanced robotics systems and components for defense, agricultural, mining, industrial, and off‐road autonomy applications. Our ruggedized solutions meet the challenges of any industry. We are seeking outstanding students for our full time, on‑site internships and co‑ops. This program offers you the opportunity to work on real engineering projects, present your work to the leadership team, learn presentation skills, and grow beyond your technical comfort zone. Compensation: Hourly wage range is based on education and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design: Contribute to a camera housing that later entered production.
- Design: Create a vacuum form mold for a robot body panel.
- Design: Develop optical alignment tooling for the production team.
- Design: Devise a custom test for a robotic component or subsystem.
- Design: Help develop a test apparatus to simulate the motion of a pipe inspection camera.
- Testing and Analysis: Analyze production performance data on camera build quality and speed.
- Testing and Analysis: Perform thermal and finite element analyses to evaluate component performance.
- Testing and Analysis: Investigate test and field failures and propose redesigns.
- Testing and Analysis: Conduct salt spray, vibration testing, and live field testing of systems.
- Interfacing: Learn about computer vision camera models and algorithms while testing and documenting robot performance.
Required Qualifications
- A hands‑on approach to engineering with curiosity and a drive to see projects through to completion.
- A portfolio showcasing independently designed and built complex engineering projects or significant contributions to team projects.
- Active participation in clubs or activities emphasizing teamwork and collaboration (e.g., First Robotics, engineering societies, Formula SAE).
- A strong foundation in engineering coursework and the application of fundamental engineering principles.
- Experience with computer aided design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Unigraphics, Creo, Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor or similar).
