Position Overview
SmartSuite is an enterprise, AI-powered work management platform founded by the original creator of ArcherIRM. We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS Cloud Platform) to own and evolve our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability stack. Must live in the Kansas City area. Key Responsibilities
- Design and Maintain AWS Infrastructure: Own and manage the AWS environment using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform and/or CloudFormation) and reusable modules.
- Lead CI/CD Automation: Build, operate, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment for microservices and applications.
- Develop Observability Stack: Implement and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and performance.
- Collaborate with Developers: Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot infrastructure issues, optimize performance, and refine deployment practices.
- Strengthen Security & Compliance: Manage AWS security controls including IAM, VPC configurations, security groups, and contribute to broader security and audit initiatives.
- Support Containerized Workloads: Operate containerized systems (Docker, ECS) and support distributed messaging/streaming systems such as SQS and Kafka.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement initiatives to improve scalability, cost efficiency, automation, and developer experience.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in a DevOps, Platform, SRE, or Cloud Infrastructure role with significant production environment ownership.
- Hands-on experience operating and scaling a multi-tenant SaaS platform in production.
- Deep AWS expertise including ECS, Lambda, VPC, S3, IAM, SQS, and CloudWatch.
- Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation a plus).
- Strong background in CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration with Docker and ECS (EKS/Kubernetes experience is a plus).
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, or Bash) and excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in or with highly regulated industries (e.g., financial services, healthcare).
- Exposure to AI/ML workloads or event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with security frameworks or compliance standards such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
