Position Overview
Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital (TFH) is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. Our commitment is as strong today as it was over 150 years ago: providing unrestricted healthcare to all who walk through our doors, regardless of immigration or insurance status, or the ability to pay. We serve individuals of all ages—from infants and school-age children (5+) to youth and adults—and are the largest provider to homeless families living in shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs. The Public Relations and Social Media Manager will develop and implement effective public relations strategies while managing our presence on various social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee social media campaigns including research, content creation, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
- Create and identify public relations opportunities by establishing and maintaining media lists, pitching stories, and writing press releases.
- Maintain The Floating Hospital's reputation.
- Collaborate with VP/Communications & Marketing, VP/Foundation, and other team members to create a social media strategy that drives awareness and engagement.
- Develop timely, engaging content optimized for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, working with the senior designer and copywriter as necessary.
- Monitor social media platforms and respond to messages as needed.
- Manage social media profiles for key executive staff.
- Analyze and report on social media initiatives on a monthly basis.
- Collaborate on cross-media campaigns that involve social, web, and print content.
- Work with the fundraising team to maximize exposure and increase participation in key fundraising events and campaigns.
- Stay up to date on trends, new technologies, and techniques.
- Plan, develop, and execute a media communication strategy to keep media outlets, local politicians, community leaders, donors, supporters, and the larger community informed and engaged.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and community voices.
- Prepare and distribute press releases, media kits, and other communication materials.
- Manage media inquiries and interviews.
- Maintain press and media pages on our website.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience in public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience working with a variety of media forms including print, electronic, photographic, and social media.
- Strong written and oral communication skills at all levels of an organization.
- A mission-driven, empathetic, and compassionate approach.
