Job Description

Position Overview

Come join our team at Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories – a leader in innovative clinical testing serving communities from large tertiary centers to small practices. In this full-time role (FTE: 1.0, Standard Hours: 40.00, 1st shift: 6:45am–3:15pm with Weekend & Holiday Rotations) you will perform waived, moderate and high complexity testing on patient specimens while ensuring top quality patient care. You will also be actively involved in training students, new employees, and medical personnel, maintaining instrumentation and quality control, and troubleshooting issues in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

This position is based in Milwaukee, WI at our WI DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORIES facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned testing accurately and efficiently by acquiring and maintaining thorough knowledge of testing procedures and principles.
  • Follow established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results, investigating abnormalities and notifying leadership promptly.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner by prioritizing tasks and maintaining an organized workstation.
  • Work both independently and as part of a cohesive team, proactively communicating delays or issues and assisting with additional projects as needed.
  • Perform required quality control procedures, accurately document results, and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Operate instrumentation correctly by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and documenting any problems with appropriate corrective steps.
  • Participate actively in the training of students, new employees, and medical personnel, while engaging in continuous education and professional development.
  • Investigate issues thoroughly, take corrective actions when needed, and escalate unresolved problems to the appropriate leadership.
  • Successfully complete all competency assessments and comply with performance improvement plans as required.

Required Qualifications

  • MLT/MLS: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or related field such as Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry) with a minimum of one year of direct clinical laboratory experience. Must obtain ASCP or AMT certification within 12 months of hire (an extension of up to six months may be available with approval).
  • Non-Certified Technologist: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry (or a related advanced science degree). This role includes a 12-month on-the-job training period (2080 hours for full-time employees) before eligibility to take the applicable ASCP certification examination.
