Senior Power System Engineer

Location

United States - Nationwide (Hybrid; preferred location: any CDM Smith office)

Summary

Senior Electrical Engineer (Design and Power Systems Analysis) responsible for supervising and guiding power system analysis tasks, serving as technical expert, and leading multiple projects across federal and other infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision, guidance, and review of power system analysis tasks and projects.
  • Serve as technical expert in highly technical electrical matters, assisting in design, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving.
  • Act as liaison with internal and external units, independently handling technical matters on electrical design and power system analysis.
  • Lead or act as project manager on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Support business development activities of a highly technical electrical nature.
  • Act as a technical and professional leader, mentoring lower‑level employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related discipline; Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 12 years of related experience (or equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power systems for water, wastewater, industrial, federal, and transit facilities.
  • Familiar with industry and federal codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, UFC, etc.).
  • Published in IEEE Journals or other technical journals.
  • Proficiency in power system planning; applied expertise in distributed generation, alternative energy, and microgrid systems.
  • Proficiency with designing, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving for medium voltage distribution systems including substations, switchgear, and standby generation systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and convey complex concepts.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, and other electrical system analysis software (Easypower, EDSA/Paladin, Cyme, Milsoft).

Compensation

Pay Range: $134,264 – $248,394. Sign‑on bonus may be considered for the successful candidate. All bonuses are discretionary.

Travel

10% travel required.
