Position Overview

Assistant Engineer - Civil (Level I/II) is responsible for performing civil engineering work in the design, surveying, testing of materials, and construction oversight of public works projects such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, water/wastewater facilities, airports, and building constructions. This transfer posting is for County of Sacramento employees only. Salary: Level I: $7,057.44 - $7,781.25/month; Level II: $8,491.17 - $10,836.72/month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform design, surveying, testing of materials, and construction oversight for various public works projects.
  • Apply principles of physics, mathematics, and engineering to solve technical challenges.
  • Conduct topographic and construction surveys and perform stress and material analyses.
  • Prepare detailed reports, accurate field notes, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a civil engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology OR a current Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Requirements: Must possess a valid Class C Driver's License (or higher) and meet certification requirements as outlined by the County.
  • Qualifications: Proven ability to perform accurate computations, prepare detailed reports, and maintain precise field documentation.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and performing tasks requiring manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
