Position Overview
Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a Data Scientist Engineer responsible for designing, building, and maintaining an enterprise‐grade business intelligence platform and analytics capabilities using Microsoft technologies. This role leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and data science tools (including PowerBI, SQL, Python, and R) to provide data‐driven insights into strategy and business operations. It also involves significant data engineering work, managing on-premises SQL Server environments (with SSRS and SSAS) and supporting a migration to Azure, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, Synapse, and OneLake architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable enterprise business intelligence systems and analytics capabilities for lawyers and staff.
- Develop and maintain dimensionally modeled data warehouses to support reporting and advanced analytics.
- Lead innovative AI‐driven approaches to automate workflows and ensure data integrity and integration.
- Synthesize and analyze data for comprehensive reporting, including financial reporting and addressing complex business questions.
- Collaborate with software/data engineers, analysts, and legal operations stakeholders to define data needs and build structured, governed solutions.
- Participate in data architecture planning and contribute to the firm's overall modernization strategy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in data science, data analysis, or data engineering using Microsoft technologies, ideally within legal or professional services industries.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server BI and data science tools such as T-SQL, Python/R, PowerBI, SSRS/SSAS, and DAX.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft’s OneLake architecture.
- Proficiency with ETL tools including Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, and third-party API/system integration.
- Experience in dimensional modeling and enterprise data warehouse design (Kimball methodology).
- Understanding of data governance, compliance, and security requirements in a legal context.
- Experience documenting data models, source mappings, and ETL flows.
- Proficiency with Git and Azure DevOps for collaborative development and deployment.
- Familiarity with data security best practices (with Security+ or higher certifications considered a plus).
Compensation
The national estimated salary range for this position is approximately $96,800 to $165,900. Starting salary will be determined based on qualifications and location.
