Job Description
Position Overview
San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) is a San Antonio, Texas based, privately held company with over 40 years of experience as a premier American manufacturer of high quality comfort footwear. SAS is seeking a Machinist/Mechanic responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, operate, or test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
- Dismantle machines to access and remove defective parts.
- Design and machine parts for existing and new equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance (inspecting drives, motors, belts, checking fluid levels, and replacing filters).
- Diagnose mechanical problems using blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs.
- Repair machines and structures using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and precision instruments.
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical components, piping systems, or equipment.
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery parts.
- Order parts, supplies, or equipment as needed.
- Perform general maintenance duties of buildings or properties.
Required Qualifications
- Experience performing routine maintenance on machinery and equipment.
- Skilled in operating manual machining equipment including mills, lathes, and drill presses.
- Proven ability in repairing machines or systems using appropriate tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a logical approach to diagnosing issues.
- Ability to select and use the correct equipment for various tasks.
- Physical Requirements: Must be capable of performing physical labor for 8 hours or more per day, including stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 70 lbs unassisted (assistance required above 70 lbs), and other repetitive motions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Must be able to read scales, micrometers, and calipers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Machine shop experience preferred.
- Conversational English and Spanish skills.
