Our client, a prominent player in the advanced manufacturing sector, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to their innovative product development team in Durham, North Carolina, US. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. You will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and systems for cutting-edge products. This involves translating concepts into detailed designs, performing analyses, and overseeing the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD).
- Creating detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and specifications for manufacturing.
- Performing stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other simulations to validate designs and ensure performance under various conditions.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing personnel, to ensure integrated product design.
- Selecting appropriate materials, components, and manufacturing processes for optimal design performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Developing prototypes, conducting testing, and analyzing results to iterate and improve designs.
- Troubleshooting design issues and providing technical support during the manufacturing and production phases.
- Researching and evaluating new technologies and design methodologies to enhance product innovation.
- Contributing to design reviews and providing constructive feedback to peers.
- Documenting design specifications, test procedures, and manufacturing guidelines.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Participating in project planning and contribute to realistic project timelines and resource allocation.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with at least 4 years of experience in mechanical design and product development. Proficiency in 3D CAD software and experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools are essential. Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles is required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with diverse teams. Experience with prototyping and hands-on testing is highly advantageous.
