Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Lead to drive challenging design projects in a dynamic industrial environment. You will spearhead the design efforts, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions. This position is based on a hybrid work schedule with three days per week in-office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Mechanical Engineering design efforts for a team of junior and senior engineers and designers.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide range of mechanical engineering challenges.
  • Act as the mechanical team lead in coordinating detailed design phases for all aspects of mechanical engineering work.
  • Develop integrated systems designs and perform supporting calculations.
  • Prepare technical specifications, engineering studies, and perform independent reviews including calculations and drawing preparations.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure timely and complete designs.
  • Review existing facilities, propose upgrades, and present recommendations to clients and peers.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and foster knowledge sharing through established Communities of Practice.
  • Communicate effectively with client staff and team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
  • Five or more years of experience in designing mechanical engineering systems for non-commercial, heavy industrial plants, including integrated system design for new plants, modifications, or replacements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead preliminary engineering studies that evaluate multiple solutions to address client needs.
  • Strong technical judgment, excellent technical writing skills, and experience in preparing high-level bills of materials and equipment lists.
  • Three or more years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of capital projects or plant service projects.
  • Must have valid work authorization in the U.S. – we do not sponsor employees for work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Compensation Range: $82,380.00 - $125,860.00. Sargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges in compliance with local and state regulations. Eligible candidates will receive a comprehensive benefits package and may also participate in an annual discretionary bonus program.
