Job Description

Position Overview

As the Process Design Engineer, you will perform complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes, or techniques. You will assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests, products, and equipment while reporting to the Engineer Manager of the Preform Division. This is a hybrid opportunity with time spent in Bakersfield, CA and Salem, OR. PPG offers excellent and affordable benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly involved in the development of manufacturing equipment and full lifecycle processes while collaborating with other groups for both new and current vehicle designs from concept through full production levels.
  • Work with the design team to establish manufacturability standards early in the design/prototype phases.
  • Develop and process designs that form the basis of high-volume production lines while leading the dimensional quality of vehicles in production.
  • Take responsibility for meeting dimensional quality targets by leading activities that include developing geometric dimension and tolerance strategies, quality control, and improvement plans.
  • Participate in line design reviews covering robotic and tooling simulations, cycle time plans, and general line layout while driving optimizations towards engineering limits.
  • Engage with tooling development and collaborate with OEM vendors to approve layouts, tooling design, and ensure successful installation and commissioning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with high-speed manufacturing lines featuring a high level of automation.
  • Proven experience working with line vendors to design and approve layouts and tooling, including hands-on involvement with installation and commissioning processes.
