Job Description

Position Overview

VHB’s growing New York City team is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Traffic Engineer to join their Mobility group. In this role, you will gain exposure to a wide variety of transportation planning, traffic engineering, and mobility projects across diverse disciplines. Compensation: Our best estimate for this position is $78,000–$84,000; final compensation will depend on individual qualifications, education, and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within a team to develop mobility and transportation planning and engineering solutions
  • Conduct traffic impact studies
  • Perform traffic modeling using a variety of tools
  • Undertake safety studies
  • Carry out transportation planning analyses
  • Research and interpret transportation data, community statistics, and demographics
  • Prepare written planning documents and compile reports
  • Collect and tabulate traffic data
  • Analyze intersection and roadway level of service
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvements
  • Design traffic control devices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with coursework in Transportation/Traffic Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus)
  • 0–1 year of civil/transportation engineering or planning experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or model-based design is a plus
  • Familiarity with VISSIM, Synchro, HCS, ArcGIS, and experience with VBA, Python, SQL, and databases is advantageous
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; self-motivated with keen attention to detail and strong computer skills; proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
