Job Description
Position Overview
The primary duty of a Freight Forwarder is to review and process shipment transactions—including booking, billing, classifications, and processing data—for one or more major accounts. The role serves as the primary contact for assigned account contracts, ensuring excellent, proactive, and timely customer service while executing all duties correctly, cost-efficiently, and in line with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote positive relationships by delivering excellent, timely, and proactive customer service, collaborating with internal departments and third parties.
- Receive, review, and process high-volume and/or complex import and export transactions including booking, billing, and obtaining necessary government releases.
- Inspect shipments in the warehouse to ensure shipping documents match actual shipments.
- Process bills of lading and provide clear instructions for handling shipments.
- Ensure hazardous material shipments are handled in accordance with applicable government regulations.
- Create quotations for shipments by estimating prices, selecting transportation companies, and setting profit margins.
- Monitor shipment rejections, client and government agency correspondence, and resolve client concerns promptly.
- Communicate changes in domestic and international shipping regulations to clients and team members.
- Identify transactions requiring special handling and recommend improved processes to management.
Required Qualifications
- Three years of experience in a role involving extensive client contact.
- Familiarity with domestic and international geography, including countries and major cities.
- Extreme attention to detail with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues proactively.
- Ability to remain highly productive while under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong math skills with the ability to calculate freight measurements and perform unit conversions.
- Proficiency in using computer applications such as MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Freight Forwarding.
- Prior use of CargoWise One is a definite plus.
