Virtualization and Cloud Engineer

Position Overview

As a CGS principal-level Virtualization and Cloud Engineer in the Technology Support department, you will design, configure, and manage enterprise-grade virtualization and cloud solutions using VMware vSphere 6.5 – 6.7 and related technologies. This role involves working with on-premise virtualization, cloud services, Hyperconverged Infrastructure, and software-defined storage to support the technical solutions for the Executive Office for the U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA) and the U.S. Attorneys' Offices (USAOs).

Employment Type:

Full-Time, Experienced Level.
Compensation: $131,040 - $168,480 a year

Key Responsibilities

  • Setup, configuration, and deployment of virtualization systems and scripting technologies for high availability, including tools such as VMware Center, ESXi, Horizon View VDI, PowerShell, and PowerCLI.
  • Improve backup/Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations.
  • Build and maintain Windows 10 images for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).
  • Assess and anticipate infrastructure and technology improvements, recommending appropriate actions.
  • Follow the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to capture requirements, design, develop, test, and deploy technical solutions using proper change control processes.
  • Identify, test, and perform hardware and software configuration updates to maintain an optimized, stable VMware environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with VMware Horizon View 7.x infrastructure components, including vSphere 6.5/6.7, Composer, Unified Access Gateway, App Volumes, User Environment Manager (UEM), and PowerCLI.
  • Over 4 years of experience using VMware App Volumes, Horizon View, and vSphere products.
  • Proven ability to capture requirements, document detailed system designs, execute system tests, and develop implementation plans and disaster recovery documents.
  • Hands-on system engineering expertise with technologies such as VMware Horizon View, App Volumes, UEM, OMIVV, Dell OME, Cisco UCS, MS Windows 10, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Thorough understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, switching, routing, subnets, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls) and backup/recovery solutions.
  • Experience creating custom and trending reports using PowerBI or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructures such as Azure and Hyper Converged Infrastructure (e.g., Nutanix, VSAN).
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles and architectural frameworks such as TOGAF.
  • Federal Agency issued security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with additional VMware products such as vCloud Suite, vRealize Operations Manager, and vSAN.
  • Familiarity with Government software development policies and procedures.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills and experience.
