Our client, a rapidly growing manufacturing firm, is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Commodity Buyer for a fully remote position. This role is crucial for optimizing the procurement of key raw materials and components essential to our production processes. You will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring a stable, cost-effective supply chain. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of commodity markets, strong analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive cost savings and mitigate supply chain risks. This remote role requires exceptional communication and organizational skills to effectively manage stakeholders and suppliers across different locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies for assigned commodities, focusing on cost, quality, and supply reliability.
- Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within global commodity markets.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers, ensuring they meet our client's standards for quality, ethics, and performance.
- Negotiate complex contracts and agreements with suppliers, securing favorable pricing and terms.
- Manage existing supplier relationships, fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with planning teams to ensure adequate supply while minimizing carrying costs.
- Analyze spend data and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including engineering, production, and finance.
- Mitigate supply chain risks through diversification, contingency planning, and proactive supplier engagement.
- Track supplier performance against key metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in procurement and supply chain management.
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, market conditions, and cost savings initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Experience Required: 5+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing, with a focus on raw materials or manufactured components.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful sourcing strategies.
- Qualifications: Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in data analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of commodity markets and supply chain dynamics.
- Experience with ERP systems and procurement software.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a remote work environment.
- Professional certifications such as CPSM or CSCP are a plus.
