Civil/Structural Engineer / Field Inspector (Entry Level)

Position Overview

AK Engineering is a dynamic, New York City–headquartered firm specializing in special inspections and energy code commissioning services. With a professional yet exciting office culture in midtown Manhattan and excellent access to public transportation, we are expanding our team by hiring an entry level civil/structural engineer. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in multiple engineering disciplines and includes training for professional certifications, such as the Professional Engineering (PE) license. Salary: From $50,000.00 per year, Location: In person, and Education: Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering is required. Job type is full-time.

Key Responsibilities

• Visits construction sites to review work in progress, inspect materials, and verify installation methods against design documents and NYC Building Code requirements.
• Supervises field construction by inspecting installations, documenting progress, and coordinating with field and design teams.
• Manages and tracks non-compliance items, ensuring timely resolution through coordination with contractors, vendors, and consultants.
• Organizes and maintains project documentation by updating field reports, tracking logs, code databases, and project lists.
• Provides project status updates by summarizing the remaining required actions for sign off.

Required Qualifications

• Strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid grasp of engineering concepts.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering is required.
• Proficiency in plan reading, problem solving, and an eagerness to learn about the NYC construction industry and building codes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and Engineer in Training (EIT) designations are a plus.
• Prior exposure to NYC Building Codes and construction industry standards.
