Job Description

Position Overview

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Engineer to support our Natural Gas Distribution Service Operations projects throughout Kansas and Oklahoma. With a history spanning over 50 years, Orbital Engineering energizes its team members to solve complex engineering, inspection, and construction challenges. The role entails independent design work, project collaboration, compliance with industry standards (including 49 CFR Part 192, ASME B31.8, and ASME B31), and mentorship of junior staff. Candidates from Midwest/Western Kansas or Oklahoma are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering functions including investigations, evaluations, calculations, and specifications for design and drafting projects.
  • Develop engineering drawings, designs, and documentation for small to medium-sized projects.
  • Apply engineering techniques and procedures using independent judgment and technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other engineers to define project scope, monitor progress, and review deliverables.
  • Supervise the collection of field data, vendor information, and resources essential for project execution.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards and perform quality control checks on all documentation.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and assist in refining project workflows and design templates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Civil 3D.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test, with random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred.
  • Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems, including pipelines and compressor stations.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory compliance for the natural gas industry.
  • Experience managing small to complex design projects.
