Position Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.
First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. Internal Audit interns will participate in an immersive professional development program, learning the foundations of Internal Audit and auditing processes alongside experienced professionals. This program targets exceptional rising juniors and rising seniors and serves as a talent pipeline where successful interns may receive an offer to join Internal Audit.
We are looking for candidates who are within a commutable drivable distance to our Charlotte, NC office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop core skills focused on internal audit practices, audit methodology, and technology-based systems.
  • Contribute to the work of an audit team in delivering planned audit coverage, including testing key processes and internal controls.
  • Participate on engaging audit-related projects.
  • Engage in tasks such as research, analytics, process review and improvement, and technology enhancements and support.
  • Attend professional development, informational, networking, and community service events.
  • Work under the guidance of an internal audit administrative manager and audit manager to navigate the audit function and the internship program.
  • Complete a project and present your learnings and results at program completion, including a wrap-up presentation for the division leader and key stakeholders.

Internship dates: 5/27/2026 - 7/31/2026

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience.
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution during the summer program.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week throughout the duration of the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a career in financial services and/or internal audit.
  • Candidates pursuing a BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a Technology-related degree.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking abilities and capacity to multitask and prioritize based on business needs.
  • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly.
