Position Overview
MU Health Care is searching for a Patient Service Representative who embodies compassion and collaboration. In this role, you’ll be the friendly face that patients and families encounter while ensuring an exceptional experience in a high‐volume clinic setting. You will work predominantly days (8AM – 5PM), Monday through Friday, 40 hrs/wk in a Columbia-based clinic with opportunities to float to other locations. Compensation: Base Pay Range: $15.00 – $23.32/HR based on experience; Special Pay: Additional $.50 per hour until 2/28/2026. You will also have the opportunity to indicate your outpatient area preferences during the interview process. Potential assignments include Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, Neurology, Digestive Health Center, Medicine Specialty Center, ENT and Allergy, Diabetes, Thompson Center, Weight Management and Metabolic Center, South Providence Family Medicine, Children's Specialty Center, Keene Family Medicine, Surgery, ELLIS Patient Access, and Maternal Fetal Care.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issues during visits.
- Communicate any expected delays to patients and ancillary service departments.
- Greet, escort, and manage phone calls while ensuring excellent guest relations.
- Maintain the appearance of waiting areas, reception, and offices.
- Request, prepare, and verify the completeness of patient medical records and physician orders.
- Conduct patient check-in, check-out, scheduling, cancellation, and no-show management.
- Validate patient demographics, insurance details, pre-certification, referrals, and manage copay collections.
- Prepare patients for examinations and perform Point of Care testing as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least six (6) months of experience with frontline customer service and guest relations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting, including hospital admissions or medical office operations.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and computer applications such as IDX/GE, PCS, or Cerner.
