Position Overview
Become a Health Care Customer Service Associate at UPMC Health Plan! Are you passionate about helping others and making a difference every day? Join our award-winning Member Services Team as the voice of UPMC Health Plan, supporting members with their health insurance questions and providing top-tier service over the phone. This phone-based role involves handling calls throughout your shift to help members understand their coverage, resolve issues, and navigate their benefits confidently.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls, emails, and chats from members and providers
- Help members understand their health plan, claims, and benefits
- Solve problems quickly and accurately to avoid repeat calls
- Document all interactions in our system
- Navigate multiple tools while staying focused and responsive
- Make outbound calls to follow up or provide updates
- Stay up-to-date on health plan policies and system changes
- Deliver compassionate, clear, and professional service
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 2 years of customer service and/or call center experience
- Proficient in typing and writing skills
- Ability to make independent decisions
- Complex analytical skills necessary to evaluate customer inquiries
- Demonstrates good organizational skills
- A desire to help others and portray empathy in all situations
- Ability to learn complex health plan information
- Demonstrates flexibility and motivation to learn and grow
- Flexibility in work schedule
- Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Act 34 with renewal
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel spreadsheet program preferred
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: $19.10–$20.70/hour
- Must be available for day, evening, rotating, and weekend shifts
- Hours of Operation: 7 days a week, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Location: Must live within 90 miles of Pittsburgh or Erie
- Work Environment: Remote work available after training; in-office options offered
